The Nigerian Society of Chemical Engineers (NSChE) Foundation is the brain child of the first “visioning” exercise undertaken by the Nigerian Society of Chemical Engineers – NSChE’S Vision 2020 project carried out under the leadership of the National NSChE President, Engr. J. J Akpieyi, FNSChE.
The NSChE Foundation, in addition to providing the NSChE with a stable pool of funds for her projects, was established with the following main objectives:
These objectives captures the motto of the NSChE Foundation: National Development through Chemical Engineering, which points to the role that Chemical Engineers and the profession of Chemical Engineering must play in the quest for a stable path in national growth and development in Nigeria.

The NSChE Council on July 10, 1999, approved the establishment of the NSChE Foundation Committee (NFC) for the specific goal of developing the blue print for the creation of the NSChE Foundation. The Committee comprised 15 members (later expanded to 18 members) was led by Dr. T. M. John, FNSChE as Chairman.
After the inauguration of the NFC on August 13, 1999, the committee produced the blue print for the establishment of the NSChE Foundation. The blue-print which technically comprised the Constitution, formed the basis for the registration of the Foundation with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) and setting up of the inaugural Board of Trustees. Engr. A.O. Shobo was appointed to serve as the inaugural Chairman of the Foundation; Dr. T. M. John as President, while Dr. J.U. Nwalor was appointed as the substantive Executive Secretary. The members of the inaugural Board of Trustees were sworn in on February 8, 2001. They comprised of the following:
Presently, Dr. N.J.D Erinne is the Chairman of the Board of Trustees, while Engr. A.O. R Oladele serves as President and Dr. J.U. Nwalor as Executive Secretary.
The NSChE Foundation marked its 10th year Anniversary in 2011. This was celebrated by a colourful Dinner and Award ceremony which took place on October 5, 2011. The Foundation has lived to its mandate of serving as a major contributor to the resources of the Society and has been positioned to facilitate capacity building in the departments of Chemical Engineering in Nigerian tertiary institutions.
Dynamic Poise of the NSChE Foundation
With continued national spread of NSChE Chapters buttressed by a strong Chapter in United States of America, the NSChE Foundation, has been instrumental in the creation of a robust e-Resource Web-Portal in the National Secretariat, a viable Training Department, formation of Sectoral Groups and the on-going development of the permanent Secretariat site. The NSChE Foundation has been strategic and influential to the advancement and realization of the Society’s vision “To be the Centre of Excellence for the Chemical Engineering Profession in Africa and the Prime Mover of Industrialization in Nigeria”.
