What is the NSChE Foundation Angel Fund Initiative (AFI) Programme?

The NSChEF Angel Fund is geared towards providing start-up capital for young chemical engineering graduates with bright ideas, as a way to foster entrepreneurship, create employment and advance the offering of the industry as a whole. This intervention seeks to provide a structured way of addressing this major gap. The angel fund based on its increasing impact serves as a good way to administer financial support for young chemical engineering graduates in Nigeria.

What are the areas of Business focus or interests?

We are interested in entrepreneurs and Businesses who think creatively and apply smart innovation and technology to turn their ideas into unique products and services that are sustainable and solves real commercial problems.

  • IT and Software Technology Applications
  • Food Processing/Technology and Food Preservation
  • Chemical Processing
  • Oil and Gas Processing
  • Manufacturing
  • Production Technology

Who can apply?

A Nigerian university graduate with a strong background in Science, Engineering, Business, IT, Agro processing, Food science and production technology (preferably Chemical and Process Engineering Background) see application requirements

Are there any age limits?

Yes. Applicants must not be older than 40 years at the time of applying.

How do I apply for the AFI programme?

Are there application/associated fees?

No. The NSChE Foundation does not charge applicants any fee for applying to the programme.

Selection Process

How are applicants selected for the programme?

Successful applicants are selected after completing the application and screening stages and participating in the pitch session.

The program stages are as follows:

  • Application stage
  • Screening Stage  
  • Pitching Stage
  • Training & Mentorship stage 
  • Due Diligence and Seed Capital Investment Stage

How will I be informed regarding my application status?

Applicants will receive notification immediately they submit their application. Please check your email for your application status.

Why was my application unsuccessful?

Your application may be unsuccessful as a result of one or more of the reasons stated below.

  • – Your application was not completed properly.
  • – Your application did not meet the required eligibility criteria
  • – Your Business Plan and Business Model Canvas was not clearly articulated.
  • – Your Business plan/idea did not fall under our areas of interest.
  • – You did not provide adequate answers or descriptions in one or more sections of the application
  • – You did not submit all the required documents
  • – Your score was low in one or more of the selection criteria.

Can I reapply in another programme cycle, if not selected in a previous cycle?

Yes. Review the application requirement and selection criteria in the next programme cycle to ensure you meet the eligibility requirement. Then, follow the instructions given to describe your business idea/plan and business model canvas and other aspects of your applications. 

Will there be a waiting list for Applicants to join the programme?

Yes. Allowances will be made where selected candidates do not claim their places by the set deadline, the next best candidate on the waiting list will be given the opportunity to commence the programme.

Angel Mentorship

Who are Angels?

Angels provide entrepreneurs with startup funds and their expertize support at the early stage of the business to help the business foster innovation, get off the ground, and carry it through the difficult early stages.

How will mentors be assigned?

All successful applicants will be assigned a mentor from the commencement of the programme. This will be based on compatibility of business area and industry experience. 

What is the particular role of the mentor in my business?

The mentor will use their expert business knowledge and vast experience to help you navigate the programme, tackle real-life business challenges and improve your business. Mentors will have an expected number of minimum contact hours with the successful candidate (mentee). 

Data Privacy

How will my personal information be used?

Profile of successful applicants will be made available for PR purposes. Applicants will be asked to provide a profile and photo during the early stage of the application. Strict confidentiality of records will be maintained.
